Green Pack

The Green Pack is an educational multimedia kit, aiming at European primary school teachers and their students. It can also be used for other levels of education.

Particularly appreciated by Toyota is the fact that the Green Pack is tailor-made for each country which supports our grassroots approach; the contents are developed in close cooperation with local organisations, tackling local issues. Teacher training is an essential part of the project and Toyota supports the REC in making teachers play the key role in delivering the sustainable development message. A pilot-project was conducted in Poland and then rolled out to various countries across the continent. We are proud that over 15,000 teachers have been trained throughout Central and Eastern Europe.

The content focuses on particular aspects of environmental protection and sustainable development and includes a variety of educational materials such as a teacher’s handbook with lesson plans and fact sheets for students. Added to these are a selection of films with animated clips, an interactive CD-ROM with extensive information on various environmental topics and an interactive game.

Rather than simply supplying more facts about the environment, we have put particular emphasis on teaching students new values and a new attitude towards their surroundings, not only at school but at home and in society as a whole. Students are made to play an active role alongside their teachers in accomplishing various activities, discussions and decision-making.

Results

Since 2001, more than 15,000 teachers in Europe have received Green Pack training. About 1.8 million students have been educated using the Green Pack materials.

In October 2007, at the Environment for Europe conference in Belgrade, a new version of the pack was launched, called Green Pack Junior. As compared to its multi-media big brother, this Junior model is intended for younger students and designed to be more easily taught in classrooms with less technical equipment.
