EcoDriving Europe
EcoDriving Europe is a grass-roots programme which produces immediate results. The training involves intensive, face-to-face instruction on driving methods. Drivers are taught how to reduce fuel consumption and therefore also reduce emissions. During the workshop, participants are shown the benefits of a new and improved driving style, not only from an environmental point of view but also from a safety and cost perspective.
The project was first piloted in Belgium in 2007 with our partner EcoLife. Based on positive feedback the programme is now rolled out also in UK, Spain, Norway and Iceland, in partnership with an international NGO network called Global Action Plan (GAP). EcoDriving Europe organises intensive workshops and other types of events and has a broad audience including small to medium sized enterprises, corporations, schools, community organisations and government bodies. Special simulators are used which have been specifically designed and developed (jointly by Ecolife, GAP, Toyota and GreenDino which is the simulator supplier) for driver education. A typical workshop trains 15 people in half a day using five simulators.

Results
The workshop equips every driver with the skills to save 154 kg of CO2 emissions every year after they take the EcoDriving workshop and apply the improved driving style.
In 2007, the pilot project in Belgium trained 810 drivers through 54 half-day workshops. Another 10,000 drivers received information about the principles of eco-driving.
