Second Living Trails Maintenance Day in High Tatra Mountains

Around twenty people took part in a maintenance day on 13 June in the Tatra National Park in northern Slovakia. The event, which was organised by the Ekopolis Foundation and Toyota Motor Slovakia (TMSK), was attended by management from TMSK, high-level representatives from Toyota Motor Czech Republic, several Slovak journalists and local residents from the village of Zemianska Dedina. This project was one of six to receive funding as part of the 2009 Living Trails programme which is supported by TMSK, Toyota Motor Europe, and the Toyota Fund for Europe (TFfE).

The volunteers began the day in cold and slightly snowy weather by transporting wooden visitor benches and tables to the Tatliakova Hut on the Rohac Trail. Once in location, the tables and benches were erected along with a new shelter. The volunteers also spent time maintaining the trail to repair snow and water erosion damage that occurred during the winter. The day ended with the volunteers sharing a meal of goulash under clear skies as they took in the spectacular views.

This is the second project that TMSK and Ekopolis have organised in the Tatra National Park. In 2008 volunteers worked to maintain a trail in the Ziarska Valley. TMSK and Ekopolis hope to organise a similar event in June 2010.
