The vehicle is fitted with four 85 watt solar panels and a 300 watt wind turbine. Together the panels and turbine generate enough energy to power the Pandamobile’s DVD player, large screen television, computers, sound system and other equipment for two days. The panels and turbine are also used as part of the demonstration to show visitors to the Roadshow how renewable energy can be used. WWF is offsetting the carbon dioxide generated when the vehicle is driven to different venues by supporting the extension of a wind-farm in Turkey.
As well as providing storage for the equipment needed for the Roadshow, the Pandamobile includes a kitchen area and dining table. The flexible design enables the dining table and seats to be converted into beds for WWF staff. The storage area can also be converted to form a stage.
The latest event for the Pandamobile was a sailing regatta on Lake Balaton in Hungary. During the day WWF representatives encouraged the sailors to write their own climate change messages on a sail cloth. At the end of the day, the sail cloth was installed on a sailing boat and made a lap of honour on the Lake.
