Toyota Green Place Officially Opened in Bulgaria

The Toyota Green Place in the Vitosha Nature Park was officially opened on 25 October 2008. The Park is located close to the capital of Bulgaria, Sofia. Toyota Bulgaria initiated the project to replant trees and develop tourism in a 2.5 hectare are known as the Toyota Green Place.

Toyota Bulgaria has, together with the Vitosha Initiative Group and the Toyota Fund for Europe, planted around 10,000 trees in the Toyota Green Place. New tourist facilities and information boards were unveiled during the opening celebrations.

Guests at the opening received information and promotional materials bearing the project’s slogan “Plant a Life!”. A film detailing the destruction of the forest ecosystems on Vitosha Mountain and Toyota’s involvement in the rehabilitation of the area was shown for the first time. The film will be distributed to television stations and government and education institutions.

Fifty volunteers from Toyota, our partner NGOs, local authorities, the media and the general public, planted trees in the Toyota Forest following the opening. More the 600 young trees were planted to replace seedlings that had not survived the summer.

The opening of the Toyota Green Place also marked European Forest Week (20-24 October) which was held for the first time this year. The opening also celebrated Vitosha Mountain Festival Day which was held on 27 October.
