Following a one-year pilot study, Toyota Great Britain (TGB) has rolled-out its 8-Step Environmental Plan to their network of more than 200 retailers. The Environmental Plan aims to significantly reduce CO2 emissions at all Toyota retailers in the United Kingdom. The plan has been introduced with the support of the Carbon Trust, an independent non-profit company that was established by the UK government to accelerate the country’s move to a low-carbon economy.
The pilot study was conducted during 2009 at 16 retailers. The trial showed that savings of up to 20% in electricity and gas consumption were possible, reducing the carbon footprint of each site by as much as 30 tons of CO2 a year.
The plan is structured so that it delivers benefits to Toyota, its retailers and to the wider community through education and communication of the best energy saving practices.
