Toyota Motor Russia Organises Green Day Near Moscow

On 27 June 2009 more than 80 volunteers from Toyota Motor Russia (TMR) and four Toyota dealerships participated in a Toyota Green Day in the town of Mytishchi. The Toyota volunteers were joined by their families, friends and local residents in cleaning and planting activities. The event was held as part of Toyota’s Green Month and was supported by the Moscow regional government, WWF Russia, and the local authorities from the Mytischinsky area where TMR has its headquarters.

During the first part of the day, the volunteers cleaned an area of 15 square kilometres, gathering over 200 sacks of waste. The activity concentrated around the banks of the Yauza River which flows through the town.

The volunteers then moved on to planting “Toyota Alley” in Mytishchi’s central park. Around 100 lilac and rowan tree seedlings were planted to mark the start of the park’s reconstruction. The first trees were planted by TMR’s President, Mr Takeshi Isogaya, the President of WWF Russia and members of both the Moscow Regional government and the local administration. When reconstruction is completed, the park will be the largest green area in Mytishchi.

The Toyota Green Day was a great success and illustrated how easy it is for each of us to make our world a better place. TMR plans to repeat the event in 2010.
