

During the project the students gathered at TMMT to tour the plant, attend an introduction to the Toyota Way, and to gain an understanding of Toyota’s basic problem-solving and reporting methodologies. Workshop sessions were also held where the students could discuss their projects with Toyota employees and develop their reports.
Around 340 junior high school students from 20 schools took part in the competition, developing 170 different solutions. The students had been asked to develop a project in one of three categories: the environment, energy saving, or automation.
During the ceremony on 4 June, top 3 winning projects were announced for each category. One of the winning projects in the environmental category was to create a mechanism to separate oil and from other fluids at a washstand. Prizes were given to the winning teams by TMMT.
