TMIP Helps Residents Clear Illegal Landfills

Toyota Motor Industries Poland (TIMP) has just completed a project to clear illegal landfills in the Jelcz-Laskowice area. During July and August 2010, TMIP produced a series of maps of the area and asked local residents to mark the sites of illegal landfills.

After collecting and collating the data, 12 TMIP volunteers and 148 residents from six local villages helped to clear the landfill sites. More than 20 tonnes of waste was collected in this operation.

In October, TMIP also organised a campaign to collect used electrical equipment from people who live in the Jelcz-Laskowice area. Called ‘Change Used Equipment into Flowers’ the campaign saw more than five tonnes of used electrical equipment handed in. TMIP gave out over 900 flower bulbs to residents who participated in the campaign.

At the end of November, TMIP invited local residents and schools students to take a Green Plant Tour through the facility. The visitors were shown how the plant manages the waste that is produced on-site and the rules of daily waste management were also explained. The tour gave the participants a good overview of TMIP’s continuous efforts to improve its waste management technology and overall approach to ecology.
