Eco Challenge in TDG

With the occasion of the launch of the new Auris Hybrid, Toyota Germany (TDG) set an Eco-Challenge, in a nationwide search for the best fuel economy. This efficiency rally is organised by TDG in cooperation with Shell and Michelin, who are also active in the search of a more economic drive, with development of new fuel additives and “green”, less resisting tires.

A call for action, published in the automotive magazine AUTOBILD on August 27th and September 3rd, announced the start of the challenge. Flyers and brochures are available at Toyota retailers and Shell petrol stations all over Germany and the programme details can be found on the website of TDG, where gathering of applications has already started: www.toyota.de/ecochallenge

The aim is simple: 20 teams of 2 people will be created by the end of September, aiming to compete for the minimum fuel consumption during a 3-day challenge. The route is organised in cooperation with ADAC / Fahrsicherheitszentren, the German centers for driving safety. Five additional teams will participate, outside the competition: AUTOBILD, ADAC, ADAC Motorwelt, Shell and “Abenteuer Auto”, the car programme of “Kable 1” German TV channel.

The actual challenge will take place from the 15th to the 17th of October, starting and ending at Grevenbroich. After three days of driving approximately 1.400 km, with various special tasks to be achieved on the way, the winning team will be identified. Both of its members will receive as a prize an Auris Hybrid, worth EUR 23.640. Two Shell vouchers worth EUR 2.000 each is the prize of the second team and two sets of Michelin EnergyTM Saver tires are foreseen for the third one.

A few days after the eco-challenge has been announced, the interest is already high: 2.000 teams of two have already applied on-line, in the search of performing better with less…
