Toyota Deutschland’s IAAF Roadshow Visits 60 Cities

In the lead-up to the 12th IAAF World Athletics championships to be held in Berlin from 15 to 23 August 2009, Toyota Deutschland (TDG) and Deutsche Post have sponsored a national roadshow which began on 7 May in Bonn, and ended in Berlin on 5 August. The roadshow has visited 60 German cities to raise awareness of the IAAF championships and environmental issues.

The environmental focus of the roadshow has been Plant for the Planet, a United Nations Environmental Program (UNEP) which aims to plant a billion trees a year. Over 4 billion trees have been planted globally to date. The German branch of the project was founded by three schoolchildren in 2007 with the aim of planting one million trees in Germany alone. TDG is the largest corporate sponsor of Plant for the Planet in Germany and it has been designated a Green Project of the 12th IAAF World Athletics championships.

Visitors to the roadshow were able to donate trees to Plant for the Planet and sign-up for planting events around Germany. Toyota’s Eco-driving simulator was also available to visitors so that they could test their driving style and improve their own environmental performance. Around 50 people utilised the simulator each day.

Toyota is a major sponsor of the IAAF championships. TDG has supplied a total of more than 200 iQ, Avensis and Prius vehicles to be used as shuttle cars for the IAAF. The vehicles have also been on display at the roadshow.
