Irish School of Excellence Opens Driving Campus

The Irish School of Excellence opened their driving campus in February for a ten lesson course aimed at young drivers. Run over five to six weeks, the course prepares students for their driving theory test and provides them with an overview of the responsibilities of driving.Read more

Toyota Motor Manufacturing Turkey starts eco-tours for local children

On 19 November 2009 Toyota Motor Manufacturing Turkey (TMMT) hosted the first of its eco-tours of the TMMT plant in Arifiye. The tour was arranged in collaboration with the Sakarya National Education Directorate and Arifiye National Education Directorate. Within the Arifiye region there are 13 elementary schools, and TMMT hopes that around 400 children from these schools will undertake the eco-tour by the end of March 2010. The eco-tours are planned to continue in future years with schools from other districts.Read more

Schools for Sustainable Development and Toyota Dealers Meet to Discuss Cooperation

Toyota Motor Poland (TMPL) and the Polish Environmental Partnership Foundation held a series of meetings with Toyota Dealers from Poland on 30 November and 1 December to discuss cooperation on environmental projects. The main goal is to provide schools with information on environmental management systems such as ISO 14001. It is hoped that the Toyota Dealers, who are all ISO 14001 certified, will be able to pass their knowledge and experience on to school students.Read more

Toyota España Holds Reforestation Day

On 22 November 2009 Toyota España (TES) held the second edition of its highly successful Reforestation Day. More than 10,000 people, including staff and customers from 63 members of the Toyota Retailers Network, took part in the planting of seeds and seedlings in 61 different locations across Spain. More than 160,000 oak tree seeds and 10,000 seedlings were planted during the day.Read more

Toyota Motor Europe Welcomes PURPLE

Toyota Motor Europe has welcomed delegates from the Peri Urban Regions Platform Europe (PURPLE) to Head Office on 13 November. The members of PURPLE were gathered in Brussels for the organisation’s General Assembly. PURPLE’s members come from 14 regions in Europe (such as Flanders in Belgium). The network provides a forum to discuss how to optimise urbanisation, agriculture, open spaces and business development at the periphery of cities.Read more

Over half a million Euro in grants to be awarded by Toyota Fund for Europe

The Toyota Fund for Europe (TFfE) today announced the awarding of 18 grants totalling close to €600,000 to support community activities primarily focussed on the environment. The grants will launch 12 new national projects, 4 new projects in cooperation with Toyota plants and will continue to support the 2 Toyota Fund flagship projects: EcoDriving and Eco-Schools. The projects will be coordinated by partner NGOs and Toyota companies across 22 European countries.Read more

WWF Roadshow Visits Serbia

The WWF Climate Roadshow visited Serbia for the first time in 2008. More than 5,000 people attended events in the cities of Belgrade, Nis, Novi Sad and Subotica during the roadshow. One of the most important visitors in Belgrade was the Serbian Minister for Environment and Spatial Planning, Oliver Dulić.Read more

Environment and Innovation – Pilot Retailers Project

A new cycle in the Environment and Innovation programme was launched on 15 September 2009 with the theme Climate Change: Let’s Save Energy! Environment and Innovation is a partnership between Toyota Motor Europe and Eco-Schools International. The two earlier cycles saw the involvement of more than 40,000 students. Biking and Running Trail Reopens After TMMP Renovation

On 20 September, the President of Toyota Motor Manufacturing Poland (TMMP), Kenji Manabe, and the Deputy Mayor of Wałbrzych, Marek Małecki, officiated at the opening of a renovated biking and running trail around the Ptasia Kopa Hill near Wałbrzych. The trail was renovated by TMMP staff members during July and August.Read more

Record Number of Polish Schools Receive Sustainable Development Awards

Forty-six Polish schools and teachers have received awards during the eighth annual Schools for Sustainable Development conference which was held in Wroclaw, Poland on 7 September 2009. Twenty-nine schools received the title of Local Centre for Environmental Activity (LCEA), while 17 received the International Green Flag. In 2008, just four LCEAs and seven Green Flags went to Polish schools.Read more

TME Supports Buitenbeenpop

The tenth annual Buitenbeenpop outdoor music festival for people with disabilities was held in the town of Leopoldsburg, Belgium on 28 August 2009. The festival provides disabled people with the chance to listen to and create music in a supportive environment. All festival preparations take into account the needs of the disabled visitor. Specially adapted trains are provided to get them to the event, while wheelchair paths, places to rest and special toilet facilities ensure the visitors enjoy the day out. More than 4,500 visitors attended the Buitenbeenpop festival this year, up from around 3,500 people in 2008.Read more

Schools for Sustainable Development Conference to be Held in Poland

The Environmental Partnership Foundation has announced details of the 8th annual Schools for Sustainable Development (SSD) Conference which will be held in Wroclaw, Poland on 7 September. The conference will be attended by more than 100 teachers, national and international guests, as well as representatives from the Polish Ministry of the Environment, the Ministry of Education, Toyota, Cadbury and regional NGOs. The event will provide participants with an opportunity to exchange experiences and share environmental knowledge.Read more

2009 Sustainability Report Shows Toyota Motor Europe Making Gains

Toyota Motor Europe (TME) has just published its 2009 Sustainability Report. The Report shows that TME has continued to make significant improvements in its use of renewable energy sources and in reducing emissions from the vehicles it manufactures. TME also made €7.8 million in social contributions across 300 community projects through the Toyota Fund for Europe (TFfE) and local Toyota programmes.Read more

Toyota Technology Challenge 2009-10 launches!

Toyota Manufacturing United Kingdom (TMUK) has just launched the 2009-10 Toyota Technology Challenge. The Challenge is open to school students in the United Kingdom aged between 11 and 16 and can be run in conjunction with the national school curriculum. Participating students utilise their knowledge of maths, English, design and technology to build an environmentally friendly model vehicle. The Challenge helps to develop the students’ interest in engineering careers and the environment.Read more

TOP-25 Visits Denmark, Estonia, Poland and Portugal in July

TOP-25, a pan-European programme to improve driving skills using interactive tools, has been active in four European countries during July. Events have been held in Denmark, Estonia, Poland and Portugal utilising TOP-25’s AlcoKart and the Driving Simulator to increase road safety awareness.Read more

TMMP Names Safe Driver 2009

The car park at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Poland (TMMP) was transformed into a race track on 26 July for the finals of the 2009 Safe Driver competition. Twenty-five participants took to the track to demonstrate their skills in various tests including an obstacle course, driving in a skid, and eco-driving. Drivers included TMMP staff and residents of the local town, Walbrzych, who were selected during sessions held by the Walbrzych Safe Driving Academy. The title of Safe Driver 2009 was awarded to a member of TMMP’s Quality Control Department, Dariusz Trembowski.Read more

Toyota Deutschland’s IAAF Roadshow Visits 60 Cities

In the lead-up to the 12th IAAF World Athletics championships to be held in Berlin from 15 to 23 August 2009, Toyota Deutschland (TDG) and Deutsche Post have sponsored a national roadshow which began on 7 May in Bonn, and ended in Berlin on 5 August. The roadshow has visited 60 German cities to raise awareness of the IAAF championships and environmental issues.Read more

Toyotasa Turkey has celebrated World Environment Day (5 June) with a day of activities on Princess Island near Istanbul. The event was organised in cooperation with WWF Turkey and the Princess Island Forest Administration. The Toyota Fund for Europe (TFfE) has called on non-profit organisations to submit applications for its 2009 grant programme to support grass roots community projects. TFfE provides assistance for projects in the areas of road safety, technical education and environmental improvement. In 2008, fifteen projects were selected to receive more than €1 million in assistance.Read more

Toyota Logistic Services Turkey Supports Green Month With Tree Planting

On 10 June 2009, the Toyota Logistic Services Turkey (TLST), its logistic partner Akmar, and a local NGO, the TEMA Foundation, supported a tree planting activity as part of Toyota’s global Green Month. The young linden and cypress trees were planted at the Körfez Steel Industry Primary School near the port of Evyap.Read more

Toyota Motor Russia Organises Green Day Near Moscow

On 27 June 2009 more than 80 volunteers from Toyota Motor Russia (TMR) and four Toyota dealerships participated in a Toyota Green Day in the town of Mytishchi. The Toyota volunteers were joined by their families, friends and local residents in cleaning and planting activities. The event was held as part of Toyota’s Green Month and was supported by the Moscow regional government, WWF Russia, and the local authorities from the Mytischinsky area where TMR has its headquarters.Read more

Toyota Hellas Takes Part in Green Month

Toyota Hellas has undertaken two major activities as part of Toyota’s global Green Month. The first involved the companies’ staff and families in the cleaning of a beach in Aspropyrgos. The work was undertaken in cooperation with the environmental non-profit organisation, Mediterranean SOS and the Aspropyrgos Municipality. The activity formed part of Mediterranean SOS’s “Clean the Mediterranean 2009” campaign to clean beaches, the seabed and other natural areas. More than 50 volunteers took part, demonstrating their concern for the local environment in a practical way.Read more

Pandamobile Completes Fifty Carbon-Neutral Exhibition Days

The WWF’s Pandamobile, a specially fitted Toyota Dyna truck, has now completed more than 50 exhibition days and visited 30 towns in seven countries since it was commissioned in July 2008. The Pandamobile is utilised in WWF’s Climate Change Roadshow which aims to raise awareness of climate change and to educate people that they have a vital and urgent role to play in minimising the emission of carbon dioxide.Read more

Second Living Trails Maintenance Day in High Tatra Mountains

Around twenty people took part in a maintenance day on 13 June in the Tatra National Park in northern Slovakia. The event, which was organised by the Ekopolis Foundation and Toyota Motor Slovakia (TMSK), was attended by management from TMSK, high-level representatives from Toyota Motor Czech Republic, several Slovak journalists and local residents from the village of Zemianska Dedina. This project was one of six to receive funding as part of the 2009 Living Trails programme which is supported by TMSK, Toyota Motor Europe, and the Toyota Fund for Europe (TFfE).Read more

The Toyota Technical Education Program (T-TEP) received a boost in the Netherlands with the addition of a new training college, ROC Mondriaan, in The Hague. The Automotive Department at ROC Zadkine in Rotterdam has also been presented with a new Toyota AYGO vehicle to be used in T-TEP training activities.Read more

Zeebrugge VLC Opens Its Doors to the Local Community

Since the start of operations in 2001, Toyota’s Zeebrugge Vehicle Logistic Centre (VLC) on the northern coast of Belgium has handled over 2.5 million vehicles. Toyota’s logistics partner (with about 150 staff) and the local Toyota team of seven currently handle around 400,000 vehicles a year. VLC Zeebrugge is the largest Toyota facility of its type in Europe. Vehicles are distributed from Zeebrugge to all parts of Europe by ship, truck and train.Read more

Czech and Polish Schools for Sustainable Development Gather for Good Practice Sharing

The Czech Environmental Partnership Foundation and the SEVER Centre for Environmental Education have hosted a very successful gathering of delegates from Czech and Polish organisations that are involved in the Schools for Sustainable Development Programme. Held from 3-5 June in Borovice by Mnichovo Hradiste, Czech Republic, the event involved 70 teachers and representatives from regional governments, environmental education centres and other partners in the programme, including representatives from Toyota Motor Poland and Toyota Motor Czech Republic. Roads to Respect 2009 Lecture Tour Reaches 1,000 University Students

The lecture tour phase of the third Roads to Respect (R2R) programme will be completed on 23 June with a visit to the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology in southern Germany. Since March, the lecture tour has visited 23 universities in six countries (the Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Poland and Portugal). The R2R lectures are presented by the European Transport Safety Council (ETSC) in cooperation with local Toyota and 3M companies.Read more

Toyota Motor Manufacturing Turkey (TMMT) has completed its fourth technical competition with the announcement of the winners at an award ceremony and exhibition on 4 June. The project encourages young people to use their initiative to develop a solution for an identified problem and then implement their idea. Toyota Motor Poland Recognised as Responsible Firm

Gazeta Prawna, a leading Polish daily newspaper, has listed Toyota Motor Poland (TMPL) as one of the top three Responsible Firms operating in Poland. Toyota Motor Manufacturing Poland (TMMP) was 14th on the list which is developed jointly by the Polish Responsible Business Forum and PricewaterhouseCoopers. The rating is based on each company’s social responsibility fundamentals, including its relationships with clients and business partners, environmental responsibility, and social engagement. Top position on the list was taken by Kompania Piwowarska, followed by Danone and TMPL.Read more

EcoDriving Held at La Casa Encendida, Madrid

Almost 300 people have experienced EcoDriving training in the Lavapies district of Madrid as a part of Toyota’s EcoDriving Europe programme. Arbour Day Celebrations Support Plant for the Planet - Berlin

Plant for the Planet’s ambitious goal to plant 100,000 trees in the Berlin area was launched on 25 April 2009 in conjunction with celebrations to mark Arbour Day. Taking part in the event were Plant for the Planet (PftP), Toyota Deutschland GmbH (TDG) and Schutzgemeinschaft Deutscher Wald (SWD), a German NGO that has more than 60 years experience in campaigning for forest preservation.Read more

EcoDrive Champion Wins Car for Life

One careful Belgian driver has won a new Toyota Yaris for rest of his life as part of a competition organised by Ecolife, Toyota Belgium, and local radio station MNM. The first part of the competition required drivers to sound their horn within ten seconds of being called by the radio station. On 24 April 2009, the 28 qualifying drivers took part in a fun quiz on cars and mobility during the Peter Van De Veire morning talk show on MNM.Read more

WWF Roadshow Visits Budapest Zoo

The Hungarian leg of WWF’s 2009 Climate Change Roadshow began with a visit to the Budapest Zoo’s Earth Festival in mid-April. Toyota Motor Hungary and four local Toyota dealers took part in the week-long event, offering free rides from the zoo to nearby public transport in one of six Toyota Prius hybrid cars. Restoring the Memory of a Forest

Toyota Spain, in partnership with Spanish daily newspaper La Gaceta de los Negocios and WWF Espana, held a reforestation day in the Sierra del Rincon mountains near Madrid on 7 March 2009. More than 150 volunteers of all ages gathered to plant 1,000 native trees in an area that had been a pine plantation for a number of decades. The aim is to re-establish bio-diversity in the forest and to give the region back its traditional appearance.Read more

Toyota Hellas Promotes Road Safety in Greece

Toyota Hellas, together with the Greek Institute of Road Safety, RSI Panos Mylonas, has held a two-day road safety training event at the Ellinogermaniki Agogi private school. The training, held on 18 and 19 March 2009, emphasised the importance of road safety – especially for young people. TMI Provides Additional Support to Eco-Schools

Toyota Motor Italy (TMI) has announced additional assistance for the Foundation for Environmental Education’s (FEE) Eco-schools programme in Italy. TMI has supported the production of 30,000 CDs containing information on environmental degradation and sustainable development. The CDs were distributed to the 230 schools in Italy that are part of the Eco-Schools network. These schools have over 50,000 pupils.Read more

Millfield Primary School, the European winner of the first Eco-Schools’ Environment & Innovation programme, has been named as the runner-up in the European Union’s ManagEnergy Local Energy Action Award 2009. Toyota's Forest Troops Plant 19,000 Trees in Two Days - Portugal

Toyota Caetano Portugal (TCP) has announced the successful completion of its fourth tree planting as part of the Um Toyota, Uma Árvore (One Toyota, One Tree) programme. One Toyota, One Tree was started by TCP in 2005 in response to the forest fires that devastated parts of Portugal. The programme aims to plant a tree for every vehicle sold by Toyota Portugal.Read more

The Toyota Green Place in the Vitosha Nature Park was officially opened on 25 October 2008. The Park is located close to the capital of Bulgaria, Sofia. Toyota Bulgaria initiated the project to replant trees and develop tourism in a 2.5 hectare are known as the Toyota Green Place.Read more

Toyota Fund for Europe pledges another €1 million to community projects in 2009

The Toyota Fund for Europe (TFfE) has today announced 15 grants totalling more than €1 million to support “grass-root” community activities focusing on the environment, road safety and technical education. Starting in 2009, the grants will set in motion four new initiatives – ranging from tree planting to new driver education – and ensure the continuation of 11 others. TOP-25 coming for the French Road Safety Week

During the French National Road Safety Week (starting from Monday 13th of October), TOP-25 will be touring France. It is the 3rd time for TOP-25 to come to France to sensitize the young drivers. European Roads to Respect (R2R) Award goes to Polish students

The 2007 European Roads to Respect (R2R) Award has been won by Iwona Sulkowska and Piotr Paleczny from the Krakow University of Technology, Poland. The award was presented to the students for their proposal to improve the Nowa Wies road near the town of Kety, Poland. The proposal was been adopted by the local authorities and now forms part of the area’s road plan.Read more

EuroSkills 2008, Europe’s leading skill competition for students, will take place in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, from 18 to 20 September 2008. Ten students from Toyota’s Technical Education Programme (T-TEP) will participate in the Light Vehicles Technician Competition.Read more

UK School Walks Away with Top Prize in Pan-European Sustainable Mobility Competition

A UK primary school has scooped the top prize in a pan-European environment competition for their innovative approach to sustainable mobility. TFfE - Official partner of the European Sustainable Energy Campaign

Toyota Fund for Europe (TFfE) has become an official partner of the Sustainable Energy European (SEE) Campaign. The SEE Campaign, an initiative of the European Commission, aims to raise awareness of and promote sustainable energy production and use. The Red Cross launches its European Road Safety Campaign 2007- 2008

Today the Red Cross will give first aid training to more than 80 participants in the European Road Safety Day event organised by the European Commission in the Charlemagne building between 11h00 and 16h00. By doing so, the Red Cross officially launches its new road safety campaign aiming at contributing to the European Commission’s target of halving the number of road victims by 2010. 27/08/2008Read more
