Toyota Spain and RACE road safety programme

Toyota Spain and the Royal Automobile Club of Spain (RACE) have developed a new road safety training and awareness Road Tour which is travelling through Spain. As part of the Road Tour, four tents are erected in the public squares of major Spanish towns and cities. A different workshop is held in each tent and every participant has the opportunity to attend all four workshops.

The workshops cover topics such as Infant Safety, Alcohol and Driving, Passive Safety and Efficient Mobility. Different techniques are used in each workshop. For example, in the Passive Safety workshop, attendees sit in the Impact Simulator which replicates an accident at 30 km/hour. The demonstration highlights the correct use of passive safety features in cars, such as seatbelts and headrests. During the Alcohol and Driving workshop, participants wear Toyota Alcohol Goggles which help to illustrate how alcohol affects driving.

To date the Road Tour has visited La Coruña in the north of the country and Almeria in the south. Between 800 and 1,000 students and members of the general public participated in each workshop. The next workshop will be held in Alicante in January. Another nine cities will be visited by the Road Tour throughout 2009.

Results

Almost 2,000 people have participated in the programme to date.
