Toyota Hellas Supports World Champion and Paralympian, Makis Kalaras

Efthimios Kalaras, better known as Makis, is a world champion discus thrower and Paralympian. Born in 1978, Makis first came to the public’s attention when he won the silver medal for discus at the 2002 Panhellenic Athletics Championship. In the same year he came fifth in the PanEuropean Athletics Championship.

Makis’ success led to his selection for the 2004 Paralympic Games which were held in Athens, Greece. As well as setting a new European record (which still stands five years later) Makis won the silver medal in discus.

With his impressive background, Makis had high hopes for the 2008 Paralymics in Beijing, China. His aim of adding a gold Paralympic medal to his collection was not to be however, and Makis finished fifth against very strong competition.

Toyota Hellas is proud to support Makis Kalaras and his fellow Paralympic athletes. Their dedication, persistence, and zest for life are a powerful example to all.
