Toyota Green Day (Dia de Reforestacion Toyota)
On 23 November 2008, more than 8,500 Toyota dealers, staff and customers participated in the Toyota Green Day, a programme to re-establish native species of trees across the country. Over 150,000 seedlings and acorns were planted by the volunteers in 62 different locations.
Spain’s natural heritage has suffered in the past due to rapid development and the proliferation of non-native trees such as eucalypts. The Toyota Green Day, organised by Toyota Espana in cooperation with 30 NGOs, foundations and local authorities, will help to re-establish native species of trees across the country. In turn it is hoped that natural habitats will be established, enabling native birds and animals to thrive.
Toyota Motor Europe is also an official sponsor of the United Nations Environment Programme’s (UNEP) "Plant for the Planet: Billion Tree” campaign. Consistent with this sponsorship, Toyota has undertaken to plant 1.2 million trees throughout Europe by the end of 2009.
